Flourish Award 2018- Award announcement and closing party

Join us for the closing party of the Flourish Award exhibition and announcement of prize winners on

Friday 26th October, 6.00 - 9.00pm

West Yorkshire Print Workshop is pleased to invite you to the Flourish Award 2018 prize giving event. Established in 2009 to champion printmakers working throughout Yorkshire, Flourish now celebrates work from across the UK, with an exhibition of artists selected from open submission.

The exhibition brings together prints made by artists shortlisted for this year’s award, selected by an independent panel of judges. Tracy Hill, Awagami Paper Award winner at Flourish 2017 and Research Associate ArtLab CPS at UCLAN; David Sinclair, Head of Visual Art and Engagement at The Civic, Barnsley; and Grant Scanlon, Huddersfield Museums Manager, have carefully considered artworks submitted from all over the country. Their selection presents a diverse, rich and imaginative group of 13 printmakers on display in the WYPW gallery in Mirfield.

The winner of the Flourish Award will receive a 2-week residency at West Yorkshire Print Workshop and the chance to present a solo print exhibition at Huddersfield Art Gallery in Autumn 2019.

The judges will also award prizes to highly commended artists in the exhibition, kindly donated by Great Art, Intaglio Printmaker, RK Burt & Co, Awagami Papers (Japan), Hawthorn Printmaker Supplies, and ArtLab CPS.

Visitors to the exhibition are invited to select their own favourite for our People’s Choice Award, which will also be announced at the end of the exhibition. The exhibition runs until 27th October.

Shortlisted artists for the Flourish Award 2018 are:

John Angus, Neil Bousfield, Kathryn Desforges, Maxine Foster, Jemma Gunning, Sara Lee, Nazanin Moradi, Nigel Morris, Sin Park, Nicole Polonsky, Hazel Roberts, Theresa Taylor and Michaela Wheater

Liz K Miller, winner of the Flourish Award 2017, is presenting her solo exhibition at Huddersfield Art Gallery from 10th November – 2nd February 2019 and will give an insight into her practice on Saturday 17th November 1.00-3.00pm along with a ‘Circular Score’ performance with Kim Macari and Ryoko Akama. Liz will also be running a Chine Colle and Intaglio masterclass at West Yorkshire Print Workshop in January.

After its presentation at WYPW, the Flourish exhibition can be seen at PR1 Gallery at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston from 5th – 22nd November, and then at Spike Print Studio in Bristol 19th January – 16th February 2019
