We had an exciting course last weekend with Paul Furneaux

Last weekend we were really excited to welcome printmaker Paul Furneaux to the workshop. Paul is one of the exhibiting artists in our current exhibition – Form / Fragment, and came down from Edinburgh to run a weekend workshop for us in Japanese Water-Based Woodblock Printing. Having spent 4 years learning the technique in Japan, he was a wealth of information, and the course was a brilliant introduction to this subtle, ancient technique. There was a real buzz about the workshop all weekend, particularly about the low-tech method of printing – using just watercolour paints and hand burnishing with a baren, meaning that the technique is portable and can be done without the need for a printing press. All the students produced stunning work, and went away feeling enthused and inspired, and we’ve been talking about it in the workshop all week! A big thank you to Paul for coming down and sharing his knowledge with us! Hopefully we’ll get him back sometime to do another one…

In the mean time, why not have a look at some of the other courses we’ve got coming up: http://www.wypw.org/product-category/coursebookings/
