YSWN in conversation with Paula Fairfield

YSWN are extremely proud to present the Emmy award-winning sound professional Paula Fairfield in conversation at the National Science and Media Museum. As the sound designer on Game of Thrones, Paula has brought everything from the roar of dragons to massed battles to our screens. Joining us online live from her California studio, this is a fantastic opportunity to hear about her career and working methods.

This event is aimed at all women, non-binary and gender non-conforming people with an interest in sound for media. It is ticketed separately from the earlier YSWN Level Up! event on Sat 8 June: if you would like to book your place on that event, click here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/yswn-level-up-in-sound-for-media-registration-60536061991

Paula Fairfield is an International and Emmy award-winning sound designer for TV, film and commercials. She has nine Emmy nominations with one win for her work on Game of Thrones, along with multiple wins and nominations for her work in both The US and Canada.

During her career, she has had the privilege of working on TV projects such as the iconic Lost and with filmmakers including Robert Rodriguez, Brian DePalma, Paul McGuigan and Darren Aronofsky. Her passion is high concept sound design and her main interest is working with visionary filmmakers, which is clearly reflected in her resume and her background as an artist.

During her career as an exhibiting artist, she was the co-director of Canada's foremost media art centre, Charles Street Video. Her artwork resides in several collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Canada. Paula recently finished the final season of Game of Thrones, as well as the Robert Rodriguez/James Cameron feature Battle Angel: Alita and has been collaborating with VR Creator Michael Connelly on a Room Scale VR Narrative experience called Caliban Below. She will debut her L-ISA immersive sound commission Ocean of Tears in late 2019. Other recent projects include Mother!, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and the upcoming Soska Sisters’ remake of the Cronenberg cult classic Rabid.

The YSWN Annual Review will precede this event.
